Major equipment suppliers have rolled out new digital presses and automated workflow solutions targeting short‑run packaging and label production amid rising demand for fast‑turn, customised orders across global markets.

Fujifilm confirmed the first American installation of its J Press FP790 flexible‑packaging digital press at Quantum Flex Pack in the US. Built for mid‑to‑small flexible packaging batches, the platform cuts job‑change downtime and helps converters handle frequent SKU variations efficiently. Heidelberg launched its ChromaStar intelligent ink‑mixing module to reduce manual colour‑matching errors, lower ink waste and optimise inventory for both small shops and high‑volume plants. Its subsidiary Gallus secured the first Middle East‑North Africa deployment of the Gallus One hybrid flexo‑digital system, completing 55 label jobs within 12 hours to demonstrate hybrid production capacity.

SOMIC will unveil its new 202 automated packaging platform at PACK EXPO 2026. Equipped with video diagnostic tools and machine‑to‑machine data connection, the unit improves operational transparency for folding‑carton post‑processing. AstroNova also released the QuickLabel QL‑125 industrial desktop colour printer for on‑demand label sampling and small‑batch output.

Industry observers note that hybrid digital‑conventional set‑ups and inline automation have become key competitive advantages. They help manufacturers minimise material loss, respond faster to brand‑owner requirements and ease pressure from labour shortages across North America, Europe and Middle‑East markets.
