China-led Green Printing ISO Standard Officially Released on June 15, 2026

ISO 22067—2:2026, the world’s first green printing international standard led by Chinese experts, received official approval and release from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on June 15, marking a milestone of China’s leadership in global printing sustainability governance. Titled Graphic technology — Requirements for communication of environmental aspects of printed products — Part 2: Print finishing, the standard targets long-standing industry pain points of inconsistent environmental data and fragmented cross-border disclosure rules.
Developed jointly by specialists from China, the US, Sweden, the UK and Brazil, the standard sets unified, quantifiable rules for three core post-press procedures: surface decoration, binding and packaging forming. It standardizes full-cycle collection and reporting of environmental indicators covering raw material control, carbon emissions, energy consumption, solid waste disposal and refined VOC management, building a global unified framework for transparent environmental communication across packaging and commercial printing supply chains.
A key highlight lies in its seamless compatibility with EU Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), the core certification system for European green trade compliance. For Chinese packaging printing exporters, the standard will significantly cut compliance costs and lower green trade barriers amid strict EU PPWR and CSRD regulations. It also guides global printers to upgrade eco-friendly production workflows and match sustainable procurement demands from international brands.
Industry insiders comment that the release demonstrates China’s technical capacity to shape international printing standards. As the second volume of the ISO 22067 series, it complements Part 1 for general printing, forming a complete set of global specifications to accelerate low-carbon transformation across the whole graphic technology sector.
